My Reflection

Looking back on the fourth quarter, working on front page web designs has been a really interesting and eye-opening experience. I’ve learned a lot, faced a few challenges, but overall, it’s been really rewarding. Here’s a reflection on what I’ve gained and what I plan to do moving forward:

a. What are the learning/discoveries that I have gained?

Over the past few weeks, I’ve learned a ton about web design, especially when it comes to the front page of a website. I discovered how important the layout, colors, fonts, and images are in creating a website that people want to visit. I also learned that it’s not just about making it look pretty—design has to be practical too. Things like making sure users can easily navigate the site and find the information they need are just as important as how the website looks.

One big discovery for me was how essential it is for websites to be responsive, meaning they should look good on both phones and computers. I didn’t realize how tricky it could be to make sure a design looks great on every device, but now I understand how to use things like media queries to make my designs more flexible.

b. What are the problems/challenges that I have encountered?

One of the biggest challenges I faced was trying to make my designs both stylish

and functional. At times, I focused so much on making things look cool that I forgot to think about how users would actually use the site. I also struggled with making sure my designs worked well on different screen sizes. Sometimes, what looked perfect on a desktop would end up looking a little messy on a phone or tablet.

Another challenge was dealing with coding issues. Even after I finished a design, I had problems getting everything to line up correctly or display the way I wanted. There were also moments when my pages didn’t load as quickly as I wanted, and I had to figure out how to fix that without affecting the design too much.

c. How did I address these challenges?

To solve the problem of balancing design and functionality, I started focusing more on the user’s experience. I made sure that the most important information was easy to find and that the layout was simple and clean. I also used clearer fonts and made navigation more straightforward.

For the responsive design issues, I spent more time learning about how to adjust my designs for different screen sizes. I used media queries in CSS to change the layout depending on the device, and I tested my work on both desktop and mobile devices to make sure it looked good everywhere.

When I ran into coding problems, I took my time to double-check my HTML and CSS for errors. I also asked for help from my teacher and looked up tutorials online to get through any tricky parts. Breaking down the issues and working through them step-by-step helped me find solutions and improve my designs.

d. Moving on, I will.

Looking ahead, I want to keep improving my web design skills. I’ll focus more on making sure my websites are easy to use and look great across all devices. I also plan to learn more about interactive elements, like adding animations or making buttons and links more dynamic using JavaScript.

I’ll continue testing my designs on different devices and browsers to make sure everything works properly. And, I’ll keep pushing myself to try new things and experiment with different styles and techniques. I know that the more I practice, the better I’ll get, so I’m excited to see what I can accomplish in the next quarter.

Overall, this quarter has been a great learning experience, and I’m looking forward to taking on even bigger challenges in the future.
